The ebb™ Roadshow comes to Europe
Sunday, May 6th, 2012
BridgeMaster and Glenveigh Medical took the road for the last two weeks of April
and supported four Post Partum Haemorrhage clinical seminars in as many countries.
PPH is a serious emergency and while tamponade is not a new technique, using uterine
balloons to control post-partum bleeding has started to gain more popularity.
The first seminar in Dublin, Ireland, was sponsored by O’Leary Medical and was well
attended by close to 40 doctors and midwives. The keynote was given by Glenveigh’s
founder and clinical director David Adair and followed with perspectives on PPH
management in Ireland by Dr. Bridgette Byrne and Professor Michael Turner of the
Coombe University Hospital.

Next was Lille, France, at an event organised by Dr. Patrick Rozenberg from
Poissy with Professor Philippe Deruelle of Lille. Following Dr. Adair’s presentation,
Dr. Thomas Popowski presented an update on his research and a lively discussion
with an audience of some 35 clinicians ensued. Current clinical practice in France is
centred on uterotonics in the first stages, but there is growing interest in tamponade
as an adjunct therapy.
In Finland, and as part of Steripolar’s bi-annual clinical
seminar on Obstetrics, Glenveigh sponsored a talk on PPH management by Dr.
Kimberley DeStefano, Medical Director for Maternal Fetal Medicine at St.
David’s North Austin Medical Center in Texas. Dr. DeStefano described her
clinical protocols for managing PPH and the important role of ebb in her
clinical practice. In Estonia, Dr. DeStefano presented to a small group of
obstetricians at the Tallinn women’s centre and a discussion and hands-on
session with ebb™ followed. In both cases it was interesting to hear
discussions regarding the similarities in the protocols for managing severe PPH
and the level of interest in using ebb™ to help reduce blood loss and
transfusions.

We’d like to thank Dr. David Adair and Dr. Kim DeStefano for
their support, as well as a special thanks to our partners for helping organise
our trips and for hosting our events. We’d like to especially recognise Valerie
Cole and Aisling Healy at OLM, Riitta Dahlström, Anu Parviainen and Kati
Granlund at Steripolar, and Mart Seer at Sonotrade.

Introducing ebb™ – The Complete Tamponade System
Monday, March 12th, 2012
ebb™ – The only tamponade system that has dual balloons to control both vaginal and uterine bleeding
Postpartum haemorrhage is a serious emergency and is the most common cause of maternal death. Without treatment postpartum haemorrhage can cause death within two hours in a healthy woman. Treatment with uterotonics works in many cases, but when uterotonics fail, continued blood loss may lead to a potentially life-threatening situation.
Tamponade may be the only therapeutic measure needed to stop postpartum hemorrhage. Within minutes, tamponade treatment predicts if the bleeding is likely to stop or requires surgery. An early decision to use tamponade may reduce blood loss and the need for transfusion.
ebb™ provides a complete tamponade solution to the emergency of postpartum haemorrhage and was designed by world-renowned maternal-fetal medicine specialists Michael A. Belfort and Gary A. Dildy.
The balloon is made of malleable yet extremely strong polyurethane, allowing ebb™ to expand and conform to any uterine shape. ebb™ also features a vaginal balloon to control vaginal bleeding and act as an anchor to support the uterine balloon. External ports allow independent control of inflation, deflation, irrigation, and drainage.
